MUAR, 14 FEB: The decision to change the state government committee meeting members’ official cars are seen to be reasonable as some of the Government’s assets have extended use period, says Johor Mentri Besar, Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal.
Dr Sahruddin said some of the previous official cars were problematic and tend to break down as the vehicles were aged at 15 years.
“For the record, the state government purchased 15 cars. Executive councillors and the Ex-Officio received the vehicles officially last Wednesday (Feb 12).
“The cars are aged at 15 years and we have sent the vehicles for evaluation to the Public Works Department (JKR).
“Some of the cars tend to break down while on the road, forcing the executive councillors to change to a different vehicle,” said Dr Sahruddin.
The Bukit Kepong assemblyman said this to reporters in a press conference after attending a briefing on the expanding of the Skim Keselamatan Sosial Pekerjaan Sendiri (SKSPS) at Traders hotel, here today.
He added based on research and investigations done by JKR, the cars had reached more than 350,000 kilometer.
“I am ready to provide an explanation regarding the purchase, especially to those who raised concern on the issue,” he said in response to a statement made by the Pasir Gudang MP, Hassan Karim.
Hassan had earlier questioned the rationality of purchasing the cars through a statement that was issued this week.
“Since we are in the same Government’s component party, any concerned issue should be raised directly to the Government.
“We should cooperate together, (because) Consensus is a Blessing (muafakat itu berkat),” he said.
