JOHOR BAHRU, 9 FEB: Johor is targeting to win maximum gold medals in three eSports categories that will be held for the upcoming Malaysian Games (Sukma 2020).
The eSports, which is a form of sport competition using video games, will be offering five gold medals that include three for Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), one for Mobile Legends and one for Dota 2.
State Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage committee chairman Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar said however, the team’s main focus would be to achieve at least three gold medals.
“We are targeting to win five gold medals since the state of Johor is the host for the upcoming Sukma 2020. We must aim the maximum win.
“However, we will focus to get three gold medals and if we managed to win five, that is a great bonus,” he said.
Mohd Khuzzan, who is also Semerah assemblyman, said this to reporters in a press conference after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ESJ Core Sdn Bhd, JDT Hyperdrink and The Pantheon at Toppen Shopping centre here yesterday (Feb 8).
The MoU was held to boost ESJ Tigers, Sukma Johor eSports team, in their preparation for Sukma 2020, by strengthening the team as they will be representing Johor for Sports Malaysia XX Johor (Sukma) 2020 in July.
The joint effort was signed in which the three companies agreed to become sponsors in terms of game coaching, financial support and providing a comfortable training ground for the Johor sports team.
ESJ Core, a local eSports company, will act as consultant to ESJ Tigers, providing the necessary training and coaching while The Pantheon centre will provide training facilities and equipment.
JDT Hyperdrink on the other hand, has pledged their commitment to support and develop eSports community in Johor.
